People might disagree with this but emailing for link exchanges is very old school and no longer works. Recently one of our clients have been bombarded with requests from websites wanting to exchange links with them. Most of the links were relevant but very poor quality, spammy looking and often 3 way links which holds no benefit. When we start any SEO project we research the niche in which the company operates. Every week we see more and more e-commerce websites dropping the standard link page and replacing it with an affiliate scheme.
Link building no longer works this is why e-commerce business are using the affiliate scheme. Using affiliate schemes offers a great advantage, with all schemes they’re able to control the link building structure in relation to the website. They no longer rely on what the other webmaster has created for them in regards to wrong anchor text, link pages which can’t be found or disallowed by robots.txt if the link can’t be seen then the publisher won’t make any money simple!
In the coming days we will explain what you need to do.

By “affiliate scheme” do mean reciprocal linking with sites that you have business relationships with?
Hi Cybernaut! What I mean is more e-commerce websites offer the chance for people displaying their links to make money. Usually they have a script installed or sign up to a third party program which enables them to track links and clicks when somebody completes a purchase through one of these links. Usually they earn 2% – 5% commission depending on what the website owner is happy with.
Here’s a link to one third party scheme http://www.affiliatefuture.co.uk
Link building is going to become more difficult because of this. Why spend time searching for link partners when you can get hundreds if not thousands of one way links by paying someone a couple of pounds or dollars every time the link they display generates a sale. I’m not sure on what Google thinks of this as technically it’s paid links but from what I see it certainly works!
Well we all know how Google feels about paid links! I wonder how long this will work? Do you think this will last or is it one of those black hat strategies that will last for a while and then get shut down?
I’m not 100% sure on this, but its only a paid link if somebody clicks it. So it would be interesting to see what Google thinks. Google could quite easily find these links as the actual hyper link would have tracking code. I’m sure Google will have something to say about this in 2009.
This looks to be an independant program, might be worth a look.
